Micah Richard: I have to cut off with people during two years of my training so that people can't pass judgment on me

Micah Richard told he was prejudiced because he was "Black".

Previous England defender Micah Richards says he was unjustifiably named as somebody who displayed his riches during his profession on account of his race.

Richards, who played for Manchester City and Aston Villa, said he was named the "bling king"
by the media concerning him purchasing costly vehicles.

He said this prompted him to change his conduct.

"I wound up acting with a specific goal in mind just to fit in so individuals wouldn't pass judgment on me," said Richards.

"I had quite recently played for England, I was dark, I had an Audi and a Range Rover. A few
stories were circling about me and I got named the 'bling king'.

"However, consistently there was an anecdote about me saying I wasn't focusing on football and
it took me six or seven years to shake that tag off.

"I recall my agent saying a group was keen on me yet they weren't certain about your private
life and I'm thinking 'hang on, you are making a decision about me, you don't have any
acquaintance with me'.

"I realized that I needed to change to fit in. I have a character and I like to joke however for a long time in training I was quiet since I didn't need anybody to pass judgment on me on my character."

Richards was addressing BBC Radio 5 Live after long periods of Black Lives Matter walks over
the UK, in light of the passing of African American George Floyd.

Floyd, 46, kicked the bucket in the wake of being captured on 25 May in Minneapolis.

The four officials engaged with his capture have since been charged over the passing, which started long stretches of fights in the US and shows over the world.

Various sportspeople have stood up in the wake of the fights and how it has influenced their lives, including Richards' kindred footballer Raheem Sterling, who told the BBC that the battle against prejudice is "the most significant thing right now in time."
