ICC Women's Worldcup postponed due to COVID-19

The qualifying tournament for  Women's World Cup 2021 has been postponed due to pandemic (COVID-19).

Whereas the coronavirus pandemic previously forced the cancellation of Ireland's tour of Thailand that was scheduled in April.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the postponement of two more qualifying events because of the coronavirus threat.

Postponed Events

1- The first one is the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier
2- The other is ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier Europe Division 2.

The Qualifier wad due to take place in Sri Lanka.

It was scheduled from 3 to 19 July.

The countries that were taking part in the event include Pakistan, Sri Lanka,
West Indies, Bangladesh.

Chris Tetley, ICC events head, stated: "In the light of the continued travel restrictions international health issues and public health authority recommendation, we have decided to set back 2 qualifying events thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic."

He further adds: Our priority is to work for the protection and well-being of our players, coaches, officials, and the whole cricket community.

The next schedule of these events will be declared as soon as possible.

Ten teams will join the event. Three teams will qualify to join South Africa, England, India, Australia, and hosted  Newzealand.

Ireland's head coach Ed Joice stated:  "The chance to qualify for a world cup is always a great moment in a player's career."
